Sustainable Agriculture in Maine

SAG faculty and students have access to nationally-recognized innovative farmers and farm oganizations that support research and education in sustainable and organic agriculture.

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association

Since 1971, MOFGA has grown to more than 4000 members committed to supporting sustainable agriculture in Maine MOFGA is widely known for hosting the Common Ground Country Fair, publication of the MOF&G, co-hosting, with UM Cooperative Extention, the annual Farmer-to-Farmer Conference. SAG faculty collaborate extensively with MOFGA growers in research projects, and with MOFGA staff in educational programming. For more information see the MOFGA website http://www.mofga.org/.

Northeast Region SARE

The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program was established in 1988 to promote sustainable agriculture. Maine farmers are active participants in the Farmer/Grower grant program and SAG Faculty have frequently secured competitive grants to support sustainable agriculture research progects.
